Internships are paid and Interns are eligible for travel privileges. For this internship, we have two cohorts that we are hiring for: January 2025-June 2025 and July 2025-December 2025. In the application, you will be able to select which cohort you would like to apply to. This is a full-time internship with the expectation that you are available to work Monday through Friday during business hours.
The Analytics and Innovation (Ai) team at (COMPANY NAME) works to innovate, transform, and tackle sophisticated business problems resulting in significant and measurable enterprise impact through the application of deep cross-functional business expertise and advanced analytics. We work with business and technology partners across the enterprise (e.g., Airport Operations, Contact Centers, Network Planning, Revenue Management, Digital Products, Human Resources, etc.) to influence strategic decisions, enterprise strategy, business process, and to help connect the dots across the enterprise. We strive to be an organization with whom and within everyone loves to work!
Team members within Ai partner with business areas to improve operating efficiencies of departments across the enterprise. Projects range in duration and complexity from quick analyses to large scale transformative efforts. The team uses an array of analytical, technical, and consulting skills, including Lean Six Sigma, change management, time and motion studies, statistical data analysis, and model development and validation.
Interns are fully immersed in our culture and given significant project work. Interns demonstrate their skills to support valuable projects across many of United's departments.
Job overview and responsibilities
· Working on projects in conjunction with business teams to find opportunities for improvement, capture and analyze information and data, develop improvements and innovations
· Capturing and analyzing data of United's various operations to make fact-based, data-driven recommendations
· Applying technical skills and software (simulation in SIMO/ARENA, Excel, VBA, etc.) to analyze and improve business processes and to build tools for use by other departments
· Performing measurement and analysis (time and motion studies) in different environments, including airports, maintenance bases, customer contact centers, etc.
· Participating in and contributing to workshops, Kaizen events
· Presenting compelling findings to business leaders leading to quantifiable improvements
· Helping develop new projects and opportunities through research and analysis
· Can be located at one of the following United hubs: Chicago, Denver, Houston, or Newark
· Must be able to work one of the following 6-month periods: January-June or July-December
Qualifications
Required
* MUST BE A CURRENT STUDENT with at least one semester left after the summer ends (Freshman-Juniors)
* Bachelor's / Master's degree or a student that has completed courses in basic Industrial Engineering and Statistics
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong social skills with a focus on collaboration
* Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office products
* Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship or future sponsorship for a full/part-time position
* Successful completion of the interview is required to meet job qualification
* Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
* Projects may require up to 60-80% on-site support travel
Preferred
* Experience with SIMIO/ARENA, SQL, Minitab, Visual Basic (VBA), and other programming tools
* Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification from a recognized institution
* Relevant work experience
