Job Description:

Introduction

Are you a master student in Mechatronics or Systems and Control, looking for a graduation internship? Are you able to design control strategies and software for Motion Control? Are you skilled in Python and/or LabVIEW? Would you like to apply your theoretical knowledge in a real world setting and gain some practical experience? Then this internship might be interesting to you!

Background information

The design of (COMPANY NAME) machines is driven by the need for faster, more precise and more accurate silicon wafers. The production of our machines, also called throughput, is measured by the amount of silicon wafers per hour processed. Faster machines also mean more cycles and increased loads, which present a challenge for the lifetime of (COMPANY NAME) products. The Test and Measuring Facilities department performs reliability and functional tests at higher acceleration than the (COMPANY NAME) machines. The high loads are required to prove lifetime in a shorter time frame. Motion control of our test benches is extremely challenging because we use fast setpoint generation and data acquisition. For example, full dynamic system optimization may require a multi-axis amplifier synchronized with up to ten motors in parallel with feedback control. The current motion control platform has become obsolete and the transition to a new platform from our supplier is required. This brings a new set of challenges to integration, communication and capabilities of this equipment.

Your assignment

In this assignment, you will gather and understand the current usage requirements. You will then deep dive into the (new) platform. As part of this project, you will perform an assessment of capabilities and functionalities of the (new) product and additionally find solutions to match and improve current performance. You will have the chance to perform the hardware and software integration, which will give you a full understanding of the system. Moreover, you will develop software/applications for motion control. Designing and building of a control system is required for performance assessment.

Your profile

To be a match for this internship, you:

* Are busy with your master's in Mechatronics or Systems and Control;
* Are able to design control strategies and software for Motion Control;
* Are skilled in tooling like LabVIEW and Python (plus);
* Are driven by curiosity and have a hands-on mentality;
* Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

This is a graduation internship for 5 days a week with a duration of 9 months. The start date is as soon as possible.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require (COMPANY NAME) to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
