In the IoT domain, popular wireless standards like Bluetooth, IEEE 802.15.4 and Wi-Fi dominate the market. A relatively new standard called DECT NR+ promises to be the first non-cellular 5G standard and therefore may also be suited for IoT applications. The standard offers plenty of parameters to make the application fit the user's needs.
* In this thesis, you will start with a literature survey on link adaptation in different wireless standards - including 5G - and generate a basic understanding of the DECT NR+ PHY layer including OFDM
* In a next step, you will set up a network of development boards equipped with DECT NR+ compliant radios (e.g., nRF9151 DK) and take measurements of frame error rate (FER) and receive signal strength (RSSI) in different environments
* Based on these measurements, you will analyze the impact of using different TX power and Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCS)
* Furthermore, concepts for link adaptation algorithms will be designed and tested by you
Use your skills to move the world forward.
* You study in the field of Electrical Engineering, Informatic or Computer Engineering
* You have good programming skills in Python and a solid knowledge of C
* You've got experience in hardware-related programming of real-time operating systems (e.g. Zephyr) on microprocessors
* Ideally you are familiar with the Git version control system
* You have deep knowledge of communications engineering (e.g. modulation schemes and OFDM)
* You have experience with channel coding (e.g. Turbo Codes)
* You are characterized by good communication skills and readiness to work in a team as well as autonomously
* Strong English language skills and experience with LaTex are required to write your thesis
