About this opportunity:
In a 3GPP radio network the RAN data transmissions scheduler decides which UE (user terminal) will receive downlink data or send uplink data. In the uplink the UE normally make a data transmission request to the base station, which may or may not grant the UE to transmit and how much of its data it can transmit. Sometimes the base station may speculatively send a UL transmission grant to a UE, which it can use to send uplink data without having to make a request. There is also a third option- a configured uplink grant. This is a periodic grant to the UE for which the base station does not have to send the grant as it is already configured to be valid for a given time. Speculative and configured grants are very good for reducing transmission delay in the uplink.
What you will do:
The goal of this work is to investigate and further develop a multiple mode scheduling method that enables a dynamic switching between the modes depending on the terminal behaviour in the current mode. The uplink scheduling mode selection can either be rule based or AI/ML based. The study will be performed in a radio network simulator that is available at Ericsson. It will involve programming in Java and evaluation in MATLAB or Python.
The skills you bring:
* Good cooperation and communication skills
* Solid analytical skills and problem-solving attitude
* Great understanding of digital and wireless communications with an interest in algorithm development and testing
* Good skills in Java & solid mathematical knowledge
* You are an MSc student in electrical engineering, computer science or related fields
