About this opportunity:

This Master Thesis will investigate how to integrate 6G in Satellites. To deploy satellites becomes more and more economical with successful companies such as SpaceX and others. This has increased the interest in the communication business to use satellites for mobile communication to a much larger extent than today. The idea is to add parts of the radio to the Satellite, which in turn communicates via a so-called terrestrial ground station to the normal terrestrial network. Satellites can cover wide areas that is now difficult to cover for the normal terrestrial mobile network, e.g., oceans and very rural areas.
However, there are a lot of challenges on how to integrate the satellite as one part of the total terrestrial network. This master thesis therefore will investigate one or more areas concerning the satellite integration in 6G and also considering sustainability and energy efficiency. One problem is the spectrum, e.g., should the spectrum between satellites and the normal terrestrial network be shared? How can we perform efficient resource management and scheduling between satellites and the normal terrestrial network? Another aspect is how to utilize the increased coverage from the satellites by handing over the user connection to and from the satellites in an efficient manner.
The student is encouraged to influence the direction of the master thesis according to interest.

The skills you bring:
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong analytical skills and eagerness to find innovative solutions to problems.
* A sound understanding of digital and wireless communications with an interest in algorithm development and testing.
* Strong programming skills, e.g., Java, MATLAB or Python, and excellent mathematical knowledge.
* You are an MSc student in electrical engineering, computer science or related fields.
Extent: 1 student, 30hp
